I have been called a LOT of things but a medical expert isn't one of them. I do however, occasionally have some astute observations. The first is something we ALL notice. Little kids LOVE to pick their nose and eat those boogers. Ewwwwwww, right? I agree but I have to ask the questions that come to mind. What compells them to eat their dried up snot? Is it simple curiosity?or is it something a little more involved in our bodies evolution? I have to disagree that it is simply curiosity. If that were the case, after eating the booger the first time, the curiosity would be quelled. Like, oh, it tastes like THAT, OK. And then that should be the end of it. But it seems that it is not the case because they keep doing it! This leads me to think it has something to with our immune systems. When you think about it, boogers are dried out snot streams. Snot's sole purpose is to filter allergens and bacteria and other things like dirt and dust. Then it dries out and there are bunch of recently active but now dead viruses and bacteria, as well as some serious grossness going on in that little booger up our nose. What are in these allergy enduced toddler snacks??? I have no idea but I do know I've never met a kid that didn't eat their boogers and, if given the option, would probably eat their friends boogers too.
